Musicaltech.net: Electric drums?

Question by Raven52: Electric drums?
I have a Pearl drumset and have been adding on different sounds to it. During vacation on a cruise, I saw the drummer with an electric drumset and I became fascianted with it. I notice that electric drums are expensive and I have no idea what to get. How much would it cost just to add an electric floor tom to my set by getting the cheapest things possible? I know i need a pad, but what else?

Additional Details:

I really don’t know much about electric drums. What do I have to buy to add a electric cymbal and electric floor tom into my kit?
what is a drum trigger and do i need it?
Can you give me some “brains” that are out there now?

You also need the “brain” that the pad plugs into, and the amp to make it loud. If all you want is a few “add on” sounds, Alesis makes a control pad that can plug into their SR-16 drum machine. They would be $ 350 for both. Another way to go is the Yamaha DD55 Digital Drum Kit for $ 240. ION makes a whole kit for $ 300. and you could just use what you wanted. Then for any of this stuff you’d need an amp to power it.
